Today's Wedding Favors
A wedding
favor is a small gift given as a gesture of appreciation or
gratitude to guests from the bride and groom. This gift is usually
given during a wedding ceremony or a wedding reception.
The tradition of giving wedding
favors dates back to the origins of time. The first wedding
favors, were common amongst European Aristocrats. They were
known as bonbonniere, which is a small trinket box made of crystal,
porcelain and/or precious stones. The ingredients of these prized boxes
were normally sugar cubes or delicate confections, which symbolize
wealth and royalty.
As sugar became more affordable, bonbonnieres were replaced with
almonds. In the thirteenth century, confetti was introduced.
This was simply almonds coated with sugar. Confetti soon transformed to
the Jordon almond. Later, the jordon almond became the
signature wedding favor for modern day weddings.
